Nashville Shakes Will Be Featured in ‘Shakespeare on the Road’

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in England’s Stratford-upon-Avon has selected the Nashville Shakespeare Festival as one of only 14 theater companies in North America to be featured in Shakespeare on the Road, a prestigious documentary and book.

The official announcement was made Saturday at the Nashville Public Library downtown. Mayor Karl Dean joined Artistic Director Denice Hicks in making the announcement before other festival staff and board members as well as Metro Nashville Arts Commission Executive Director Jennifer Cole, those participating in the Shakespeare Allowed! reading of Pericles and other distinguished guests.

The announcement included a video invitation by the trust, which is the world’s leading charity in promoting the works, life and times of the acclaimed Bard. Representatives from Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust and the University of Warwick will visit Nashville this summer during the Shakespeare in the Park production of As You Like It.
