Nashville Children’s Theatre is definitely excited about presenting the tour of Pinkalicious the Musical. This tuneful explosion of pink fun performed by New York’s Vital Theatre Company will be at NCT for two performances on March 25.
“Nashville Children’s Theatre is tickled pink to present Pinkalicious the Musical for our audiences,” says Kathryn Colegrove, NCT managing director. “This will be the first time the original Off-Broadway tour has come to Tennessee after very successful runs throughout the US and Canada. Providing a hilarious show for Nashville and Middle Tennessee families that matches our own artistic caliber which can’t be seen anywhere else is a privilege NCT embraces.”
Here’s the story set-up: Pinkalicious can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe – a dream come true for this pink loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this predicament.
The one-hour family musical is based on the popular children’s book “Pinkalicious” by Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann. The sisters also penned the musical’s book and co-wrote lyrics with John Gregor who provided the music and orchestrations. The musical adaptation is directed by Teresa K. Pond with choreography by Dax Valdes and musical direction by Jad Bernardo with original direction by Suzu McConnell-Wood.
The cast includes Amber Dickerson as Pinkalicious, Melanie Dusel as Mrs. Pinkerton, Gabi Van Horn as Wink/Alison, Todd Zehrer as Mr. Pinkerton and Brian Maxsween as Peter. The show’s crew includes Stage Manager Nataliya Vasilyeva and Sound Engineer Anna Hardisty. The Scenic Designer is Adam Koch, the Costume Designer is Cherie Cunningham and the Props Designer is Tera Bruketta.
Vital Theatre Company commissions new musicals for children each season. Since its founding in 1999, the troupe has been honored with numerous awards including the Award for Excellence by the Off-Off Broadway Review and the American Theatre Wing Award for Continued Commitment to Excellence in Theatre. It has received high acclaim from audiences and critics alike for being “a wonderful place for parents to introduce their kids to the glories of live theater, done well and at modest prices.” The company is dedicated to producing entertaining and educational theater for young audiences; to date, it has presented 67 original productions for over 200,000 children and their families.
