Eddie George one of TN Rep’s Actors for Eclectic 2014-15 Season

_aRJM5510Tennessee Repertory Theatre has worked with Pulitzer Prize winners, Tony Award winners, and Academy Award winners through its burgeoning Ingram New Works Project.  Now it can add a Heisman Trophy winner to that list in Eddie George:  The former Tennessee Titan is cast in the February production of The Whipping Man, which The New York Times calls ““A compelling Civil War-era drama, filled with fine characterization and unexpected moments of humor.”

George has made well-received appearances on Music City stages in recent years, including the titular characters of Othello (2014) and Julius Caesar (2012) for Nashville Shakespeare Festival and a 2006 Amun Ra Theatre production of God’s Trombones with jeff obafemi carr. In addition to George, Tennessee Rep will have a healthy mix of new and returning players as the troupe celebrates its 30th anniversary.

“Nashville is fortunate to have a vibrant theatre community, with really wonderful professional actors who live here,” says Tennessee Rep Producing Artistic Director René D. Copeland.  “When casting, I always feel an embarrassment of riches when I see the choices before me.  I know Nashville appreciates that and enjoys the quality of performers who appear on our stage.  It’s another exciting year in the Nashville theatre world, and the casts for 2014-15 season pay tribute to Tennessee Rep’s 30 years, both by bringing back familiar faces and welcoming new ones.”
