Christian Youth Theater Nashville will hold an information meeting this week to present its programs – which the organization says have the goal of providing a safe, fun, and encouraging environment for children to learn about theater arts – to parents in the region.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. this Friday (Feb. 22) at Franklin Christian Church (4040 Murfreesboro Rd. in Franklin). CYT staff plan a brief presentation about the organization and its plans for CYT in Middle Tennessee. Youngsters will get a taste of what the group’s classes are like by learning a brief song and dance number to perform for parents.
CYT is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4-18. The nonprofit organization works through the local community, utilizing classrooms and stages in churches and schools. CYT is not affiliated with a particular church body and people of all faiths are welcome. Drama, voice, dance and a broad spectrum of specialty theatrical workshops are available as weekly two-hour classes as well as production opportunities and camps throughout the summer. Since its inception in 1981, CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater program in the nation with programs in over 20 cities nationwide, according to the organization.
CYT Nashville launched last summer with camp sessions. Now the organization says due to popular demand they will host Spring classes at Franklin Christian Church and Nashville’s Belmont United Methodist Church (2007 Acklen Ave.). Class registration is already underway on its website here. Courses include the following:
Wiggles: Introduction to Music & Movement (ages 4-5)
Our Gang: Music and Movement (ages 6-7)
Beginning Drama (ages 8-14)
Beginning Dance for Musical Theater (ages 8-14)
Beginning Voice (age 8-14)
Beginning Stunts and Combat (ages 10-18)

CYT Nashville’s spring show will be You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown on May 17-19 at Columbia State Community College’s Franklin Campus theater.
