Actors Bridge/Belmont Present Revised ‘Diary of Anne Frank’

annefrankThink you’ve seen The Diary of Anne Frank because you’ve watched one of the film/TV versions or seen a theater presentation? Well, you may not have seen Wendy Kesselman’s 1997 adaptation of the Frances GoodrichAlbert Hackett story, which incorporates the Amsterdam youngster’s insights from pages Otto Frank withheld when he published his daughter’s diary two years after WWII ended. Anne’s blossoming sexuality and candid thoughts about some of her nearest and dearest add realistic notes that only heighten the poignancy of a tale already rich with sadness and regret – but also Anne’s indomitable spirit.

Actors Bridge Ensemble and the Belmont University Department of Theatre and Dance present this eyes-wide-open version directed by Bill Feehely today (Nov. 15) through Nov. 23 at the Belmont Black Box Theatre (1575 Compton Ave.). Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays with additional shows at 2 p.m. Nov. 17, 8 p.m. Nov. 19 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21.

Tickets are $20 (discounted to $15 for Belmont faculty, staff, alumni with ID, senior citizens and non-Belmont students as well as $5 for Actors Equity Association members with ID). Belmont students get in free on convocation dates (Saturday and Sunday matinees and Tuesday and Thursday evenings).
