Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Nashville Opera & ‘Mary Poppins’

Mary-Poppins-Nashville-OperaThe third annual Nashville Opera movie sing-a-long at Franklin Theatre on July 13 should be practically perfect in every way – it’s Disney’s Mary Poppins in glorious, full-screen Technicolor complete with lyrics so the whole audience can join in, and there are two screenings because of demand!

“Nashville Opera is pleased to present one of the most-beloved movies of all time, Mary Poppins, in this exciting format,” says Nashville Opera COO Noah Spiegel. “Mary Poppins is one of a handful of films which has transcended the movie-musical genre and become an integral part of our collective experiences. No matter if you have seen it once or a hundred times, you just have to watch it again. You’ll end up singing along!”

The classic 1964 musical starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke was nominated for 13 Academy Awards and won five, including Best Actress for Andrews, Original Score (Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman) and Original Song for “Chim Chim Cheree” by the Sherman brothers as well as for Film Editing (Cotton Warburton) and Special Visual Effects (Peter Ellenshaw, Eustace Lycett and Hamilton Luske).

The fun starts with a vocal warm-up led by Nashville Opera singers, who will also take the audience through complimentary goodie bags containing various props to be used at strategic points throughout the film. Participants are also encouraged to show off their creativity and tailoring skills during the pre-show dress-up competition because prizes will be given for best costumes.
