All that California jazz at the Schermerhorn

Nashville jazz fans don’t have to purchase a plane ticket to California to see six world-class jazz musicians onstage together. Featuring an all-star band, the Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour concert will take place Friday, Jan. 25, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

DeeDeeGrammy- and Tony-winning vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, Grammy-winning bassist Christian McBride (who is no stranger to the Schermerhorn stage), pianist Benny Green, drummer Lewis Nash, saxophonist Chris Potter, and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire will perform together to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Monterey Jazz Festival. This is the third North American Tour of the world’s longest continually-running jazz festival.

“Our 55th Anniversary Celebration is shaping up to be our best tour yet,” said Tim Jackson, artistic director of Monterey Jazz Festival. “The band’s debut at the 2012 Monterey Jazz Festival was an overwhelming success and the chemistry between the artists is amazing. The music swings with ferocity and fun!”

Featuring jazz standards and original music, this is sure to be memorable night of improvised music at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert are $34 to $94. Call 687-6400 or go to www.nashvillesymphony.org.
