Filmmaker to Attend Event; Sell-Out Expected For Exclusive Screening
For the fifth year Belcourt Theatre has been selected by the Sundance Film Festival to screen a specially selected film on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014. This year, the Belcourt will screen Low Down directed by Jeff Preiss. This will be the film’s first screening outside of Utah as part of Sundance Film Festival USA, a program designed to introduce the Festival experience to film-loving audiences nationwide. Only nine venues in the country have been selected for this special event.
Based on Amy Jo Albany‘s memoir, Low Down explores her heart-wrenching journey to adulthood while being raised by her father, bebop pianist Joe Albany, as he teeters between incarceration and addiction in the urban decay and waning bohemia of Hollywood in the 1970s. The cast includes John Hawkes, Elle Fanning, Glenn Close, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage and Flea (of Red Hot Chili Peppers fame).
Preiss will attend the 7 p.m. Belcourt screening. Tickets ($15, no Belcourt member discount) are on sale now. For more info or to buy tickets call (615) 383-9140 or visit www.belcourt.org.
