Belcourt Theatre Valentine: Love and Romance on the Big Screen

Sunrise1The Belcourt Theatre’s Valentine’s Day weekend programming (Feb. 13–Feb. 16) features something for every movie lover, as well as special events that pair films with food and drink.

The classic Oscar-winning CASABLANCA has 10 showtimes at the Belcourt, kicking off Feb. 13, 6 p.m. with “A Night at Rick’s” featuring Morocco-inspired fare and cocktails, followed by the film at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $35 ($30 for Belcourt members) for “A Night at Rick’s” and CASABLANCA screening.  On Feb. 15–16, the Belcourt features “Celine and Jesse Forever: The BEFORE Trilogy,” director Richard Linklater’s story of a couple told through three life-changing days, each day nine years apart. Showtimes for BEFORE SUNRISE, BEFORE SUNSET and BEFORE MIDNIGHT are timed to allow devoted fans to see all three consecutively (with short breaks). For audiences choosing to see the trilogy on Feb. 15, a food pairing is offered that includes a Paris-themed picnic and a selection of Mediterranean sweets and savories. Tickets to each film are available individually, with a BEFORE Trilogy ticket discount of $20 ($15 for Belcourt members). Advance tickets for the BEFORE trilogy with the food pairing are $40 ($35 for members).

Continuing over Valentine’s Day weekend is the newly-released GLORIA from Chilean writer-director Sebastián Lelio. The film stars Paulina García who won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for her performance as a vivacious, middle-aged divorcée who finds what may be her last chance for love while grooving on the dance floor of the local singles club—uncovering a new strength and realizing that, in her golden years, she can shine brighter than ever. Brilliantly scripted and energized by a keen sense for music, GLORIA slowly captivates the audience. For midnight movie fans, the Belcourt offers TRUE ROMANCE Feb. 14–15. Written by Quentin Tarantino, the cult classic is a Valentine’s Day antidote for those who prefer their love stories a little less traditional.

The Belcourt’s concessions stand will also offer Valentine-themed drinks and candy Feb 13–16. For all showtimes, tickets and further details, click on the previous text links or visit belcourt.org.
