Nashville Ballet invites local dance companies to join Emergence

emergeNashville Ballet has announced a new community-wide audition opportunity offering one Nashville performance group the opportunity to present a movement-based work before each performance of its cutting-edge Emergence series, May 14-16, 2015, at The Martin Center for Nashville Ballet.

In the spirit of the Emergence series and the current renovation and expansion of its Sylvan Heights facility, Nashville Ballet hopes to introduce more of the community to the art of dance and the plethora of talented local artists in Nashville. Emergence – which features multiple collaborations with local arts organizations – has seen partnerships with local musicians and choreographers such as Alisd Chamber Ensemble, Portara Ensemble and Banning Bouldin. This year’s Emergence will include performances from the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Nashville Opera, and Matthew Perryman Jones as well as choreography from frequent guest choreographer Gina Patterson and Nashville Ballet company dancer Christopher Stuart.

Emergence is a wonderful platform for the Nashville dance community to explore, experiment and to celebrate the creative process,” Nashville Ballet Artistic Director & CEO Paul Vasterling said. “We get to do this as a company, and now we want to introduce our audiences to the other incredibly talented dance organizations in town. We have an amazing, thriving contemporary dance community and we want to make sure all of Middle Tennessee knows about them.”

Eligibility and Rules

Eligible organizations are movement-based performing groups with an established history of public performing or have current 501(c)3 status. All interested organizations must submit a DVD to Nashville Ballet of the piece they wish to present at Emergence.
