Dance Theatre of Tennessee has canceled its encore performance of Ballet in the Park scheduled for tonight, Monday, Oct. 1 due to inclement weather. The dance company has released the following statement:
After much deliberations and coordination from the production team, it was decided that it would be best to cancel the performance for the safety of its performers and audience, as the weather forecast doesn’t look like it will let up anytime soon.
“We are trying to re-create a complete theatrical experience for Ballet in the Park. In order to this, we obviously need Mother Nature to work with us,” says artistic director Christopher Mohnani. “We were hoping that she would give us at least one more day, but it doesn’t look like this is going to happen.”
The inaugural Ballet in the Park performance series was a success. Almost 1,300 people came and joined us for the weekend. About 250 of them remained late Sunday night to wait with us for the weather to hold up. The response we got from the audience, which gave us rousing ovations after the two performances, was a strong indication of the need for an outdoor classical dance series. We were so honored and grateful that Dance Theatre of Tennessee was able to fulfill that need.
